Hi Lelos,

Your size 12 feet are definitely going to constrict you to wide boards. Pretty much all of the boards you have listed are hybrid rockers. The Lib Techs and the Nitro’s use Rocker between the bindings and camber at the nose and tail, where-as YES, Rossignol and Nidecker use camber between the feet and rocker at the nose and tail. Both these hybrids are legitimate ways of buildinga board, but the do feel quite different. My experience is that the Libtech / Nitro way of doing it, makes short carves really punch and quick to initiate, there is a touch more torsional flex in the boards so they like being worked into carves. The pop is good because of the cambered tips and they feel stable at speed, personally I think this is the livelier way of making a hybrid rocker/camber board. Then there is the Rossi/Nidecker way of doing it; I find these boards hold firmer on long carves, moving the point at which the board rockers upwards to the binding means you have tons of grip at your feet. Boards built this way initiate turns quickly but don’t have that extra pop out of turns, even though they are much better than standard reverse camber boards. I think these boards feel slightly looser in the park and slightly more agile in the powder.

If you like the sound of the first type, you have some good options noted down:

The Nitro Team Gullwing Wide is going to be great for raiding the park and freestyling over the whole mountain. The Nitro Addict is slightly directional and has a slightly softer flex pattern designed to help intermediates progress. All the Lib boards you have listed there are serious all mountain boards, with it’s new C2 banana profile and power plates this board is perfect if you want to hit big jumps in he pow and generally aim down the mountain in a straight-line, it too is slightly directional. I’m afraid I don’t have much experience of the Skunk Ape, but it sounds like a good twin option… however, if getting hold of a Lib Tech is difficult in Greece then warranty issues will be a nightmare.

If you want the second type, i.e. camber between the feet and rocker at the tips:

The Rossi Angus is a great board, and not so different from the YES boards of last season. However I’m not sure the 158mW is going to be wide enough for you size 12 boots, you can check using our boot size checker. The One Mag is a fantastic all-mountain snowboard, but again it’s slightly directional. If you can get over than then you’ll find it hard to get that spec with similar money anywhere else, it’s definitely a great board for seasonnaires. And finally, the Grip. The Grip uses pressure loaded rockered tips, our tester Ben absolutely loved this board, but it’s definitely a board you should try before you buy. The equalizer sidecut is quite strange and isn’t to everybodies taste.

Hope that helps

Rich

One thing that came to my mind was the Burton Custom Flying V which is also available in 158W but then again I do not know much about what kind of a ride you are looking for except that is has to be “rocker”.

So mind telling us a bit more about what kind of terrain you plan on riding like mostly park or pow or whatever else..

yes sorry for that,i got carried away, mostly pow60%d then park40% but im thinking to give it a little push this seazon.the last two seasons i was riding a sapient pro evolution, and i was quite happy to be honnest, but i want to give the new tech a try,and to try one of the best.the custom flying was the first to come in mind, since my first choice ‘yes’ doesnt come wide.but im concerded with some bad rewies and with the directional shape.how will it ride switch?im quite happy with boards less famous than burton, but here in greece are hard to find.
so you see im a bit stuck….

No problem!
Well for mainly pow and some park I think the K2 Turbodream would also be a great fit! Available in 157w.
This season’s graphics on it are even sicker than last year and it’s float in pow is said to be just fantastic.
Also, as K2 is a huge company, I think you should be able to get your hands on one even living in greece..

Letl me know what you think, cheers Tobi

edit: oh crap, I forgot about your preference for twin decks again.. in that case the Turbodream is probably not the best choice. Directional twins and directional shaped decks can also be ridden switch but do, naturally, not feel as good as real twins.

There is a reason why Burton is so big.  Given that they were one of the pioneers of the sport back in the 80’s and 30 years later are still at the top of the industry should speak volumes.

I think you would be very happy with the Custom Flying V, I think the Custom is Burton’s longest running line of snowboards to date?  You are locked into getting Channel bindings it sounds like Union has jumped on the tech…  dunno if anyone else is yet.

So don’t worry if you are “stuck” with Burton…  you could get a board for a lost worse then them. :)

Haha, yeah that’s the car equivalent of being stuck with a Ferrari… could be worse!

The Burton Custom Flying V is a great snowboard, it’s really responsive and a great ride switch. But you do have to be on the ball when you’re riding it.
