Hey, I’m in desperate need of a new board, and I’m going to lake tahoe in early december. I rekon they would have a sale on 2010 models in the US, and I have an adress I can order online and get it shipped to, if I can’t find the board in store. I’m a non-working student, so funds are limited, and I don’t mind having some out of fashion board (it’s mostly covered in powder snow anyways ^^).

I’m usually riding in Norway or the Austrian Alps, back country, offpist, powder. I bearly ride park, some pists, but mostly offpist.
I’m 6.1” high, weigh around 180 punds(80kg) and uses size 10 in shoes. I prefer a medium stiff board, wide or semi-wide, I guess.

I also need new bindings, and there I have no idea what I prefer, but I have a pair of thertytwo lashed.

Hope anyone has some tips on what to buy.

Hey Daniel,

You’ll definitely need a mid-wide board. I’ve listed a few boards below that fit the bill; medium flex, directional or directional twin shape and comparatively low cost:

Rossignol Taipan. This board is this new to the market this season but features Rossi’s Amptek system and a 4.4k sintered base….....features that normally belong to much more expensive decks. It’s also available in a 158 and 160 with a mid-wide waste….....in the US you could pick one up for just over $300. It’s just won a Transworld Good Wood award so it must be pretty good.

Atomic Alibi. A modern classic that I’ve never heard a bad word about. This board is packed with loads of high-tech features including a 7.2k sintered base. The 159 also comes with a wide waste. I found 2009 and 2010 models for less than $200 on the internet…...which is ridiculous! The Alibi has won more awards than pretty-much any board out there:

Lib Tech Lando Phoenix. This board has been built for freeriding legend Mark Landvik who turns the scariest looking faces into a freestyle playground. It’ll cost you a bit more than the other two but Lib Tech’s aren’t cheap…...expect to pay just under $500 for last seasons board. A great board but not necessarily any better than the other two, although it does have magnetraction. In fairness if I was going to spend that kind of money I’d buy the 2011 Rossignol One Magtek.

Have a look at the One Magtek too as it’s a great board packed with technology and available in a mid-wide profile:

Hope this helps a bit, I’m sure Rich’ll add his opinion…......he’s the guru!

Thank’s for the quick response. The Rossignol Taipan looks really good! Do you have any thought about bindings?

Hi Daniel,

do you have any preferences on bindings like regular strap-on bindings, flow, Hybrids like the Apo Expresso,.. ?
You could just browse some older threads or use the forum search for some general information, as this topic happened to come up quite some times, yet! Or, of course, come back with more detailed questions, we will be happy to help you with your decision then!

Cheers, Tobi
