Hi Guys, great site, been using it to help decide on my next board - very useful!

Been riding a Nitro Pantera for the past few years which has been a great board, however I attended a week long boarding camp earlier this year to improve my riding and to introduce myself to the park - by the end of the week I came to the conclusion that the Pantera is definatly not a park board!! So I have decided to get an all mountain board that’s a little more park friendly and good for playing on and around the piste. After much pondering and review reading I think a Rossi One would do the trick, however I’m a little unsure of the best size to go for - I’m 5’8”, around 190lbs (depending on beer consumption!) and wear size 10UK boots (Saloman F22’s, so a small 10). Do you think I would be best off with a 156, 159 or 157MW?
Or perhaps a different board? Any advice would be greatly apprieciated!!

I’d look at the 157mW in the One, or alternatively you could check out the 158mW of the slightly more freestyle orientated Rossi Angus. The mid wide decks only have an extra 8mm max on the waist, it’ll just make sure you don’t get any toe drag during carves. An Almost identical spec to the One but less directional and no magnetraction.

Hi Rich, thanks for the reply, yeah, was thinking the 157mW but been looking at the specs (2010 board) and it actually comes up wider than my Pantera! was not to sure whether it may be to wide - or am I being to fussy over a few mill!!?
Looked at the Angus to as well as a Nitro Team Gullwing, but think I’m almost sold on the whole MagneTraction thing - does it really make a noticeable difference?

Hey KelvH,
just jumping in here on the MagneTraction thread:
Rich and Tom are mostly convinced that MT is a great thing, I recently read a few different opinions about it (I should mention I didn’t ride a deck with MT yet, so I don’t really know what it feels like myself).
Some ppl said it’s not really making a difference and some ppl even said it’s unnecessary and more disturbing than good.
It’s probably kind of important in which conditions (mostly snow-wise) you test the MT tech and, as always, there will be lovers and haters.
Here @s-r.com MagneTraction is dealt with as something useful and good, but it’s always best to make up your own mind and test the thing to see how you like it.

Hi zoryfl, yeah, been looking through a few reviews and forum threads and I get the impression most like MT, hence why I’m fairly convinced to go for it, and a lot of the negative stuff I’v seen was from a few years ago when it first came out, so assuming it’s been improved a little since then - good to get info/opinions from people who ride and test a lot of boards though!
Point taken about testing one before parting with hard earned - bit tricky though as I’m a UK rider (based in sunny Bournemouth), so not sure I’ll get the oppertunity - if anyone knows of any demo days etc. at a Snowdome, please feel free to let me know!

I’m absolutely certain that if your feet are size 10.5 UK the 157mW will be a better fit than the standard width, unless you’re using a crazy narrow stance and super heavy binding angles. If you want further confirmation check our boot size checker.

Also back to the Magnetraction conversation. To me Magnetraction makes carving super firm, you just don’t feel like you’re going to slip-out on harder snow. if you’re riding in France in resorts like Meribel where the runs can be super hard packed in the morning or bare in the afternoon then you’ll love it. Sure some people find it a bit aggressive (Jeremy Jones for one, he developed a mellow version for Jones snowboard) but I reckon you’ll love it. And on rockered boards you’ll appreciate the grip boost. Plus you don’t have to keep ontop of maintaining your edges when the snow gets hard which is a bonus when you want to hit the odd box.

LOL!
Hi Rich, spotted the boot checker thing about ten minutes after my last post about sizing!! should maybe have checked out that section of the site first! (good gadget by the way)
Yeah, most of my riding is in the Alps, so anything that makes the inevitable ice bearable can only be a good thing - think I’ll just go for it even if I can’t test first!
Thanks for the advice it’s much appriciated!

PS. Noticed the times on the forum posts are on winter time - or is that deliberate??!

Picking up on this thread from a while ago - it would appear the UK importer for Rossignol does not believe in big feet - they have not imported any mid wide boards! was thinking maybe a GNU Riders Choice - though it is a little on the expensive side - any idea how it compares?

Have you called them to ask? Because I’m sure they’re selling mw boards to BASI members.

Here are their details if you wanna give them a call:

AMG Group Ltd
2 Kelburn Business Park
Port Glasgow
Scotland
PA14 6TD

Tel: +44 (0) 844 811 0535

Have a look at the Riders Choice, it’s a great board, but I’d also have a look at the following boards:

- Signal Omni
- Nitro Gullwing
- Lib Tech TRS C2 BTX
- Gnu Danny Kass C2 BTX
- Lib Tech Travis Rice C2 BTX

Hi Tom, yeah emailed them directly, they did bring in a few 161’s and that was it, bit longer than what I am after! Will have a look at the other suggestions - again the help is much appreciated!
