I really like to carve- does the banana mess that up?

Hey there mark,

please allow me to just quote a part of Rich’s post from another thread:

i rode the Lib Snow Mullet at the test which uses taper with the banana rocker. I really didn’t like it, I couldn’t throw it into really tight turns and there was no camber to snap me out of carves, it felt unresponsive and boring

Cheers

Wow I feel like Julius Ceaser with people quoting me!

Actually, the C2 Banana is a different proposition entirely. I felt the snow mullet wasn’t the best because there was no camber in the tail.

Like the RC camber in the Never Summer and the Burton Flying V profile the C2 Banana uses rocker between the feet and camber in the nose and tail. I find this combination of rocker and camber means the board flexes loads at the waist but has the pop you need at the tail to kick you out of carves. I find the rocker between the bindings means you can work the board into some really tight carves really easily.

Basically, you can carve on normal banana boards but it’s not quite the same as camber. Because C2 banana has camber in the tail the board has the recoil in the board to punch you out of tight carves and energy to shorten up carves. Not much difference between the performance of normal Banana and C2 Banana on long carves.

So yeah you can definitelty carve on C2 Banana BTX.

Hey guys, thanks for that. Because I’m mainly a freerider, I want to be sure I get the right thing with boards being so expensive.  I’m cross shopping the T Rice against a Prior MFR.  Can you tell me what the feeling is like on C2, how it differs from camber?

Camber creates a pretty much uniform flex that pushes against you when you work it into a carve, as you ease the board out of carve the force that you put through the camber pops you out of the carve.

With C2 Banana the board is rockered between the bindings, rocker works into carves really easily but you don’t have the springy recoil of the board pushing against you, so the board works into carves really easily but there isn’t that energy popping you out… good for beginners but not so good for those that like to rail out powerful carves. With C2 banana you get a kind of mid-way between the two. It’s easy to work the board into carves but you have the tail popping you out. The thing I like most about C2 is the way you can be mid carve and then pump through the carve harder and it really tightens up your carve radius and loads the camber in the nose and tail for popping you out of the carve.

For tight carves I prefer C2 Banana / RC tech, for long carves where you rely less on that pop at the end I think amptek / camrock works slightly better becase you have more grip at your feet. For both it’s camber…. although you have to get a C2 deck into some tight carves, it’s great fun!

Thanks Rich, it’s a tough decision.  The C2 boards are intriguing, I wonder if they feel more fun to ride.  I’m a carving freerider and don’t want to miss out on what a Prior MFR could provide though.
