I’ve just this second visited the 2011 Burton Snowboards website. First impressions… to be honest I was a bit bemused. It’s not exactly slick, you navigate round these big clunky boxes and then the info on the boards is listed down the page about 5m long. Then you check out the new clobber on the clothes and it offers a glance at the look-book (so fashion darling). Now excuse me if I wrong, but aren’t you supposed to see the clothes in a look book… hey what do I know. So first impressions weren’t great. But then it started dawning on me, the site felt a little bit amaterish, it felt like the Burton catalogues I used to sit up and read in bed when I was 14 years old… it gave me the feeling of being involved with something raw and unpolished. After a bit of browsing i checked-out the company page and to be more precise the company photos page which has loads of thumnails of company folk chilling, riding, holidaying at the beach, kicking a football around, you get the idea. the thing I loved about the photos was that they looked like they could be anyone’s snaps, from facebook or an old album. The site kind of made me stoked on Burton again. Perhaps a bit clunky, but a little more rugged and soulful…. I think I like it.

I’d be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.

I like the new website more than the old. I think it’s just easier on my eyes. My favorite part on the website is the team page; where they provide description and gears of the pro and also great pictures of the pro from the time past.

Yeah, just checked the team time-line function… that’s rad!

I was getting all choked up watching the old videos and seeing the old magazine covers. Those were the days!

After all of this time he’s still such a legend!

I hadn’t checked out Terje’s page but that was 30 minutes of my life well spent. Good call.

I think the site is great: I really liked the “kids on snow” film with the french Burton rep named Franck Rossignol.

About your navigation issues: I feelt the same the first time i checked it out.

The design:  I would not call the site raw and unpolished.

Rather that it is designed that way to state Burtons core rots. That are fading as we speak…...

Burton has a delicate balance in image. They are too big to just aim at 13-18 year olds that want´s anything else (no matter what it is) than their parents. They have to focus on customers that was there when it al started. And now have kids on their own. Hence the kids on snow parts (that I really liked by the way). Then again: people like me don´t buy much boards. I buy one when I need one. On the other hand: people like me are likely to be the one who pays for the 14 year old´s boards (ok…my son is 2. But soon enough I will).

I think in respect to that Burton has a good balance in their image.

It’s a bit sketchy, kinda hard to get around on. The part I like is the board finder, its asks you a lot of different questions and matches you pretty well.
