Hey there Rich!

I just took my time and translated and modified a buying advice template from a german snowboarder forum (snowboard-community.de).
I thought it might a good thing (sticky thread) to have here, as well!

Check it out here and let me know if you would like to have something changed or added/removed:

Looks good, what’s your idea? how can we incorporate it? It’s certainly a good idea if users fill it in and then post it as it’d be easy to advise to the person to a suitable board if they filled it in. We would have done something similar in the board selecta but if you start incorparating weights and height you have to start advising sizes, when you start doing that, you’ve got a whole lot more information that you need to type into the CMS…. trust me 400 boards in and still loads to submit, putting in more data to the existing boards might drive me to commit hari-kari!

Is this what you’re thinking?...

I am looking for:

[ 1 ] Board
[  ] Binding
[  ] regular straps
[  ] fast-entry system (Flow/Cinch/..)
[  ] Boots
[  ] Other

Measurements:

Body height:  178 cm
Weight:        75 Kg
Shoe size:      9 US

Riding level:

[  ] Beginner
[  ] Intermediate
[  ] Advanced
[ 1 ] Expert

Riding style: (multiple selections allowed)

[  ] Piste     [  25] %
[  ] Powder   [ 30 ] %
[  ] Park       [ 25 ] %
[  ] Rails     [ 20 ] %

Special requests: (free text or keywords)

Price Limit:          [  500] € / [  ] $

Yeah, integrating this in the board selecta! sure means lots of additional work..

The idea behind this template is to create a sticky-thread named “buyin advice template - FILL OUT FIRST” (or something like that) here in the buying advice forum. The user looking for help, just needs to quote or copy&paste; that template into his new thread and fill it out.

Except that I intended to use ‘X’ instead of ‘1’, you filled it out correctly. With the informations provided by the sheet it should be really easier to help the user as you do not have to ask for all these things, like you had in oldski73’s thread, e.g.

Definitely a good idea Zoryfl. I’m not down with all the tech talk so ‘sticky thread’ was a bit lost on me, but I definitely get it now.

I was wandering if you’d like to help on the site? Could really do with some help on the forum… well when it starts getting busy and people start using it. Want to be an admin?

I definitely appreciate you putting all the work into the reviews and the forums, helping ppl to decide, giving advice and all that really detailed and thoroughly. So I’d love to be a part of snowboard-review and help you out with some stuff.

There is one thing I got to mention, though: as you maybe remember I’m a medical student and therefore times will come up when I do not have much time to spend on the site because I am really busy with studying.
As long as that is okay with you guys, I’d be happy to accept your offer.

Nice one! I’ll get Dan to set you up with an admin login.

I completely get your situation with studying… not that I did any studying at university, but then again, I never wanted to be a doctor.

Just a hand with the forum once in a while would be awsome, absolutely no commitment with regards to time, hopefully we can get you along to some events to later in the season.

Well then, cheers on good collaboration! =)

Saying this, I wrote a general boot buying guide today. Check it out again and tell me if you might want to implement such things in the forums as well:

Changes, comments and all that stuff is always welcome!
