Hi snowboard-review.com
I started skiing way back in 78! and last season I lost a bet and went snowboarding, and I actually liked it.
I am wanting to buy my self a snowboard and basically have no idea what to buy can you help?
I am 1.78cm and 90kg and can get down a blue and roll down a red!
thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
Best Bet you ever lost! But start of a serious addiction.
Ok so you’re about 5’9” and 90Kg which is the same hight as me but about 12Kg heavier. So first off I think you should be looking at a board around the 160cm mark, I wouldn’t be inclined to ride anything shorter. Just so I can help you a little better, need to ask a couple of questions.
Where do you usually holiday? French Alpes, States?
You can handle reds and blues, are you linking carves down these or slip turning (skidding on the edge or runninga long one edge)?
How much are you looking to spend?

I go to the French Alps and some times go to Italy.
basically; basic turns on the blues but I get wobbly on the reds!
money I am not too bothered as had the “right” ski gear made it enjoyable so as along as it ticks the boxes for what I need I don’t mind. (I am not made of money though)

Ok so you need an all mountain snowboard. I’d probably go for a directional board… at least until you’ve mastered crusing around the hill. When you start hitting jumps switch it’ll be time for a new board anyway. As far as length goes. At your hight I’d say 157-158cm but you’re a bit heavier than me so I reckon you’re in the 159-161cm area. Length isn’t a bad thing… it provides a longer effective edge for more grip and bigger boards are designed for heavier riders. So don’t think riding a smaller board will help you manouver the board easier… that’s a load of rubbish.
I’d look at the following boards:
Rome Headline - 160
Apo Line - 160
Endeavor Guerilla - 160 (if you read our Endeavor Brand Focus, Max loves this deck)
Ride Control - 162
K2 Podium - 159 or 162
Option Red Line - 160
These are all good intermediate boards that’ll help you to progress. The transition from learning turns to carving, trying jumps and doing bits and pieces of off-piste is pretty quick with snowboarding so you’ll be an intermediate after another couple of weeks hols, no point in buying a straight out beginners board… they’re made more for hire shops.
