Hi guys

I’m looking to buy my first board board and bindings in the next few days while the sales are still on.
I have been down to my local snow and rock and they have listed potential boards for my level. I have recently completed my lessons at my local snow centre, so am looking for a board a can keep for a few years and one which i can progress with and hopefully get a bit of park action out of.
List is:
K2 Podium
Ride Antic
Omatic Boren
Rome headline
Saloman riot

I have also tried alot of boots and decided to go with a pair of salomon savage uk 9.5, so additional help with what bindings i should get would be appreciated

Thanks for reading

Hi Tommy,

All of those boards are going to fit your needs. Personally I wasn’t blown over by the Rome Headline, I found it a little bit unweildy. So discounting that leaves you with the Omatic Boron, K2 Podium, Ride Antic and the Salomon Riot. If you’re more interested in progressing your freestyle you should be choosing between the Riot and the Antic, both are less directional than the Boron and Podium, the Antic has urethane sidewalls, great for damping rail impacts, but the Riot uses a more progressive sidecut which will aid stability at speed. To be honest they are much of a muchness. If you’re more interested in carving on pistes and riding pow then it’s between the Podium and the Boron The Boron is more about the beginner rider, but has a huge amount of fans… if you’re looking to progress quickly then I’d go for the Boron. If you’ve got the basics and want a slightly firmer board that is best ridden faster and more aggressively, go for the Podium.

Hope that helps…. to be honest they’re all boards that would be more than suitable.

Thanks very much for the reply your knowledge is most helpful. I think i’m going to trial the Ride antic and see how it feels.
In regards to bindings is there any in particular model i should be looking at?
I decided to go with the salomon savage boot as this had the best fit and support that i tried (and i tried alot)

thanks again Rich

Hi Tommy,

Yeah good shout on the Ride… are you testing it at Hemel?

Bindings wise, I’d look at pairing a Salomon boot with a Salomon binding for the best anatomical fit. I think the Salomon Code is a great binding for the money and it’s in the sale.

Thanks Rich

Yeah…will be testing the ride at Hemel (only a stones throw from home)

I’ll check the salomon codes out as well

Thanks again for your help and i’m sure i’ll be posting more questions to you soon (as if you don’t have enough to answer)

A few late contenders have just been thrown into the mix, the GNU carbon credit & the Stepchild Everything sucks.
Your opinions on these would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you’re going to ride lots of rails and jibs when you go on holiday, and if you plan to frequent the Hemel dome, it’s worth a look at the the Everything Sucks. I’d definitely have a good look Carbon Credit. Rocker is going to help you getting to grips with initiating turn on steep terrain and the rocker profile will help you with riding powder and straightlining into jumps without being too catchy. Yep I’d definitely look at the Gnu, especially with Mag edges.

The GNU looks like a great board your right, but i’m finding it hard to find a 156 and in my price range for a first board.
I’ve decided to go with the Ride Antic..found it at a good price from edge2edge and only one of the 157’s left i could find.
In your opinion will the Antic cope with carving and pow, and also will it allow me to hit the rails and jibs when i feel more confident on the piste

Thanks

Rich

After reading many reviews i’ve made a complete u-turn and gone with your first advice of the Omatic Boron, i pick up from TSA on saturday.
I just wanted to ask a quick question on board length, i know it probably doesnt make alot of diference but was wondering whether to buy a 154 or 157. I’m 154 up to my chin and 157 just below bottom lip…what would be best suited? (TSA only have a 157 by the way)
Now i’ve just got sort my bindings, need something to complement the board you origanlly suggested the salomon codes as i have a salomon boot…would you stick with that or are there others that spring to mind.

thanks for all your help Rich

If you want to ride the whole mountain from park, to piste, to off piste and you’re in the region of 5’7” to 5’10” and 70-80 Kg the 157 is going to be the bomb. I think I suggested the Salomon bindings because they’ll fit your Salomon boots well. To be honest any all mountain binding is going to do the job. I’m riding Drakes and am digging them, our head of testing is riding Salomons and is on his 3rd set.. he loves them.. As long as they are sturdy, adjustable and a medium flex, you’ll be great.
