I’m in the market for my first board and have rented up until now. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the rossi one magtek based on price/performance, but I’m having a little trouble deciding on size. On rentals I normally flip flop between 150 and 155.
My stats:
height: 5’ 9”
weight: 148lbs
Boot size: 9 (US)
On the rossi my choices are 153, 156, 159. I am leaning towards the 156, but would like to hear some opinions from others. Should I consider the 153 or 159 and what would the advantages/disadvantages of each be?
Coming from the east coast most of my riding has been on groomers but now that I am out in Colorado I am really looking to get into some powder. I would label myself as an intermediate who is comfortable riding and carving on blues and some blacks. Most of my time will still be on piste but I am definitely itching to experience some off piste, trees, and fresh powder.
Also I would appreciate some opinions on a solid set of bindings to pair with the board based on the type of riding I listed. Definitely want something solid, but not looking to break the bank.
Thanks guys! Awesome site, keep up the good work.

welcome to colorado!
Good board choice, I was checking out the rossi jibsaw before i bought my new deck. if you check out rossi’s website they suggest the 153 or 156 for your weight range (provided my lbs to kgs math is correct). With the magtek edges you shouldn’t need the 159. I rode a 159 gnu carbon credit last year with magnetraction, which ive heard is similiar to magtek, just a little grippier. I’m 175lbs and never had trouble with grip in the park, just on the worst ice. In my opinion the 156 should be good, especially if your looking to take it all over the mountain. The 153 would be better if you were looking to do more park riding.
As far as bindings go my experience is more limited, I’ve had good experience with ride bindings (contraband, delta). I do know that your boot plays a big role in binding fit and comfort. Sorry I’m not more helpful.
good luck and good riding!

I would agree and say that it comes to your preferences, but that you should choose between 153 and 156. I have got the 156 One Magtek this summer (I consider myself a beginner-intermediate rider). I’m 5’ 11” and 160lbs, and the 156 comes to right about my chin or maybe a bit higher. As for bindings, I was looking for a bit more forgiving and softer bindings, and I found a great deal on the Nitro Raiden Zero bindings, so I jumped on those. Can’t quite tell you how they ride, seeing as though I haven’t gone boarding yet (I live in the US East Coast), but I hope that still helps
