Hey…

I’m a intermediate snowboarder that has managed to board for 10 years without learning anything much except that I love it.

I have been riding the same stick for 7 years a LIB tech D.I.Y. board and its treated me well, but i’m thinking that I want something new.

I’m currently debating between the Atomic Banger, Atomic Alibi Renu, Atomic Stasher, Atomic Hatchet

I am open to other boards its just that I can get a good deal on these ones and they seem to have pretty good reviews.

I never ride park and I (sadly) spend most of my time on groomed and often icy runs in nova scotia, but I do try to get to the powder at least once a year for a solid week of mountain fun. So I want a board that is a joy in power but capable of cutting up the groomed runs. (here is where my ignorance comes in) Reviews of powder boards like the banger tend to make very little reference to how they hold up on the groomers, so i’m wondering if there is anything about a powder/free ride specific board that makes it unfriendly to groomed/icy conditions.

Also…I’m not that good. It pains me to admit it, but it really doesn’t show that i’ve been riding ten years. I want to have as much control as possible and I’m worried that the banger is a little to advance for me. Truthfully i just love to leisurely cruise the mountain. I like speed as much as the next guy, but generally I’m in no hurry.  Ideally I’d love a board that could take my riding up a notch… as it is, I spend very little time in the air and I’d like to gain some confidence on jumps.

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions.

I’d forget about Banger if I were you…the review on this site gives it a flex of 8…that’s a seriously stiff board and will take some major effort to get it singing. I wouldn’t worry too much about a powder specific board either if you mostly ride groomers. You can always move the bindings back a little when you hit the deep stuff.

Of the other 3 you’ve mentioned the Alibi Renu would be my choice because of the sintered base but it sounds like you’re probably more suited to a directional board (unless you wanna ride switch too that is). In short…might be worth looking at some other models….which ones depends on budget I guess.
