I am 6’2 and around 185/190 lbs riding for some 20 years. Riding mostly all mountain but like playing while i ride. So buttering and occasional park visit, but mostly looking for a very fun all mountain board with some park and powder action (there rarely is some). Like going a bit faster and it would be nice to have solid edge hold for some turns when the conditions are not ideal.

The board choice; narrowed it to:

- Joystick 161
- Custom flying V 160
- Sherlock 160

- Feel free to add other Burton board or different size of current lineup

The board i currently own is a Santa Cruz Chris Roach 155 some 12 or 14 years old (don’t even remember) so i would like to try something new and fun so my am leaning towards V rocker boards (from what i have read) but coming from board this old everything will probably seem totally new.

Have the Cartel Est on order and will probably take Burton ruler boots with it (Btw: will there be a big difference between my Northwest boots (around 8 years old) and Ruler’s?)

Currently leaning towards Joystick but not 100% yet so opinions welcome. Would really like to have as much as fun as possible with my new setup, so keep that in mind :).

Thanks,

Casper

Hey Casper,

I’d say the Custom V with its stiffer flex will probably be the better choice for riding piste and going fast. The Joystick will definitely be better for jibbing around and going for the minishred.
It’s your decision whether you want better performance on the piste or in the park..

Thanks for the answer Tobi. Finally decided to go with the joystick but still contemplating about the size, don’t know if i should take 157 or 161 for my size and weight (6’2 and 190 lbs).

Cheers,

Casper

Casper, I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I’m the same height weight as you and I’ve been riding for 18 or so years (expert level/ex snowboard bum)... my current setup is a 1998/99 Burton Rippey 157 (I’ve only ridden a few dozen times during the last decade due to changing priorities… lots of surfing and very little snowboarding). I’ve been looking at the Burton Custom x, Bburton Sherlock and a few other models from k2, etc. I have some of the same preferences as you. I’m looking for a board that has a ton of control (especially at speed), pop, works well in the pow and I can still use to hit the kickers with. I’m leaning towards going up in size from my 157. I’m thinking somewhere in the 160-164 range. Looking forward to some good pow days at Mt Bachelor as well as many average days around My Hood. Thoughts?

In the end i decided to take the Joystick in 157 with Cartel est’s. V rocker shape rides longer that traditional camber so it should ride like a 159 cambered board i was said - so coming from a 155 camber this is ok.
