Hi there, sorry kind of new to this forum thing but hey ho here goes….
I think I’ve outgrown my beginners board and i want to move up a level, i have a morrow wildflower 153 at the moment and i’m and around 5’8 and around 165 pounds…...
i have not a scooby what board to move on to and i have a relatively small budget (under $250/£150), i live in scotland and our season can be quite icy…
i want to try a bit of everything this season, so looking for a board that can pretty much cover it all
was thinking last years rossi justice or k2 fling?
any advice would be kindly appreciated :)
thanks annie

dude, if you can find a new board for less than 150 you’re doing good, very very good.
It is repeated a lot on forums, but if you have the general idea of what type of board - and if you know the characteristics of what you want - then eBay can be your friend.
There’s not that much interest in boards there - partly due to the small casual snowboard market (hard core heads will have scoped out their new gear already) - and even more so for women’s boards, so there are some good deals to be had.

Aye ebay seems to be the cheapest as well as the-house.com but thats about it :/ ach well i’ll keep looking just not sure what board is the right board :s just preference i suppose.

Saying that, I’ve been having a look around, and a few shops have 2010/2011 boards knocking about for £175 or less, but they all seem to be in the 147 and under size. Those that I have found in your size seem to be the very basic women’s boards, like a K2 Moment in a 154 at boardwise.com. Ellis Brigham/The Snowboard Asylum (ellis-brigham.com) have a couple of previous season boards by Omatic and Academy.
And this is from my local - albeit 40 miles away! - shop called Subvert, based at Manchester’s Chill Factor snowdome: http://www.subvertboardstore.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&product_id=3048&Itemid=77 It’s a K2 VVV women’s board in a 152 from last season for £196. A bit high in your price range, but people seem to like it. (I’m male, not that you would guess it by the name, so i have no clue as to women’s boards!)
There’s nothing to stop you from getting a men’s/unisex board, but they are often wider than the equivalently sized women’s board, so if you have largeish feet you could be ok.
If you could save another £100 then the choice increases dramatically, and would include a lot of 11/12 boards. And if you can last on rental gear for another season, and save even more money, then you’ll have the pick of gear in the sales of 2012 gear or be able to pick the board you’ve eyed up in the 2013 line ups for the brands.
I’d avoid the-house.com as you’ll get stung by shipping costs and then customs will add £50+ to whatever price you paid. I got a pair of union bindings from the US and the customs charge on $180 was £40 (this binding had sold out in the UK, and actually worked out a bit cheaper than if i’d been able to buy them here anyway).
Let us know how you get on!
