Burton Vapor - 2010

Probably the lightest board on the planet and definitely the most technical. The Burton Vapor is an incredible snowboard that has taken the worlds best riders above and beyond even their expectations. However, the true and almost forgiving flex make the Vapor more accessible than you’d think… providing you’ve got the Gold bullion to pay for it.

Manufacturer's Description:

Legal performance enhancement. No one’s claiming Kevin Pearce is dusting his breakfast cereal with HGH, but it’s obvious that something’s giving him an unfair advantage. Setting a standard that the competition can’t even fathom, the Vapor™ is so refined and effortless to ride that it brings the best out of anyone who gets on it. Just ask Kevin, the Vapor’s NASA-grade performance enhancements should practically be on trial with Congress.

Snowboard Review:

Easily the lightest board I tested, the Burton Vapor is an unbelievable Snowboard if you’ve got the money to spend. When cruising around the Piste the Burton Vapour was ridiculously stable; it cut through everything, even blocks off ice that had yet to melt in the afternoon sun. When carving, the Vapor was really lively and responded well when I shortened and closed-up my turns on steeper terrain. In the Pipe the Vapor was unparalleled, it was so stable and held an edge effortlessly, take-offs and landings have never felt so mellow and un-intimidating; I’ve never found Pipe riding so easy. Surprisingly the Vapor was even great fun when jumping off little hits on the side of the slope; the lightweight construction and brilliant pop allowed me to pull some nice-feeling tricks. If you’re looking to jib around the slope then this isn’t the board for you, it just might be too stiff. If you’re serious about riding Pipe or simply want to cruise around the Piste at high speed and hit any size of jump with stability and effortless pop it might be worth looking at re-mortgaging your house, you won’t be disappointed. Burton has also included their EST binding system on the Vapor to give it a truer flex which ultimately helps improve carving and riding transitions.

What colour is powder?

I heard somebody saying that it was scary how fast and clean this board is in the pipe…..shredders down at Keystone have been calling this the best pipe board ever built. Would y’all agree?

Rich Ewbank on August 12, 2009 at 02:19 PM

Guess it’s all subjective!, but it’s definitely one of the best boards in the pipe… Kevin Pierce seems to like it! THe Amplid Hi-Def is pretty hot and the Atomic Alibi is awsome too especially as you could buy 2 for the price of a Vapor! But yeah it’s a killer deck!

I’ve started a discussion in the Forum if you’re interested.

Yo yo Shaun,

I’m not going to lie; the vapour scared the pants off of me in the pipe. When I took it in the Kaunertal spring pipe I had to speed check so I didn’t end-up 8ft above the coping. Although one wall was icy and one was slush the Vapour didn’t seem to discrimnate it just powered across, up and out…..and because it was so light it just seemed to float.

If it’s not the best pipe board out there at the moment then there’s no way I’m strapping the best pipe board onto my feet, I kinda value my life.

The other boards that Rich mentioned are great too and might be more practical if you’re going to be riding a lot of park and doing the occasional jib. Nevertheless if you want to boost out of the pipe and ride piste at mach 10 then the Vapour is the deck for you….if you’ve got the cash.

You could buy a pipe machine and a mountain for the cost of this, and a man to make it for you, and someone to salt it up, and a house to live in, and some food.  This is for City boys and burtons bank account.
