Nidecker Ultralite - 2010

Ultralite reviewed by the Snowboard Review team.

Summary:

Fun but dependable, stable but agile, fast but easy to ride at slower speeds, the Nidecker Ultralite is full of contradictions. Probably the most technologically advanced snowboard in the world, but accessible to riders of all abilities. Without doubt, one of the best freeride snowboards on the planet!

Manufacturer's Description:

All of our know how gathered in one board. Every now and then a board comes along that changes everything, changes the way you look at performance, changes the way you look at construction and changes the way you look at technology. Well, the Ultralight is just that board. One look at it in the flesh redefines what you have come to expect from a snowboard. An absolute tour-de-force of technology.

Aimed at riders who are looking for a high performance freeride board, it utilizes construction techniques that most manufacturers only dream about. Review of Nidecker Ultralite:

The ultimate snow surfing experience. Very manoeuvrable at high and low speeds despite the length. The welded wood core results in a really pure flex with minimal dead-spots and the blended radii result in silky smooth carve initiation and seamless change from long and short carves add the directional shape and slim waste and you get lightening quick edge-to-edge response. Very stable at high speeds and tons of float in powder. The Ultralite’s tail is much softer than a lot of freeride boards I’ve ridden, resulting in a surf-y pumping and slashing feel which makes this board unbelievably fun to ride, perfect down critical steeps and tight trees alike. The nose of the Ultralite is much stiffer than the tail which helps deal with high speed straight lines. Edge grip through carves is faultless and the 8800 grade sintered base means you’ll be smoking your friends and the locals, having fresh tracks all day.

Despite the price and all the technology which has been crammed into Nidecker’s flagship board, you don’t need to be massively experienced or really aggressive to enjoy the Ultralite, anyone from intermediate to super pro is certain to be stoked after a days riding. Looking for a freeride snowboard to take to every mountain range in the world? Take the Ultralite, you’ll have the time of your life and be able to cram that extra bottle of duty-free in your board bag and still be within your luggage allowance!
