Salomon Special II - 2011

I’m probably right when I say you’re a little in the dark when it comes to the Salomon Special II. Well the Special has been doing the rounds for a couple of years, each year Salomon successfully lighten the Special and improve the base. Not surprising then that the illusive Special II has already been spotted on a number of riders flying out of the pipe at the New Zealand Open in Cardrona. A snowboard designed for experienced precision snowboarders who ride hard and fast.

Hey Rich/Tom! Any chance you guys might be testing this board? I’m pretty sure this is the one I will be getting this year. Love Salomon boards - already have a 2007 Burner and 2010 Grip, and want something in between those extremes. I figure this is closer to a Burner than a Grip (leaning toward freeride vs. freestyle), which is what I want. I think this will suit better than the Official or the Drift. Any thoughts/advice?

Afraid I haven’t ridden the Special. From what I can gather from the catalogue information, you are on the right lines. It’s a board for aggressive riders who want an extremely light, responsive and snappy board for riding halfpipe and laying down razor carves. In the same vein as the Amplid Hi Def, Burton Vapor and ride Prophet. Actually there were a lot of these boards kicking about in at the Burton NZ Open Halfpipe Finals.
