Apo Selekta Rocker - 2011

Quick
stats:
Recommended for park riding. Recommended for rail riding Medium cost snowboard Available in Wide Twin shape

APO’s biggest selling snowboard since I can remember is back for 2011… but this year, it’s a little different! The same true twin shape, rockered shape and biaxial glass make it into the Selekta this year, but there’s a twist. This year the Selekta gets carbon reinforcement through the centre for extra pop without any extra torsional rigidity and upgraded to a sintered base, so you won’t be enjoying any knucke sandwiches when the snow gets soft after a dose of afternoon sun.

Manufacturer's Description:

A skate for snow

Rails and parks are what the Selekta is really made for: a pure twin tip with a wide stance, with a carbon beam to make it more stable on big jumps and give it more pop.

Re above description: Don’t mean to pick at straws… but the Selekta had a rocker profile last year and (as far as I’m aware) an extruded base….

Tom - don’t know what you’re talking about ;)

What do you guys make of the flex on this?  I ride one of these and find it a little stiff tbh.

Rich Ewbank on June 29, 2011 at 02:31 PM

Afraid I haven’t ridden the Selecta. Our tester Aly took out the MTD this year with the double rocker profile and he sid it was one of the softest boards he’d ever ridden… it chattered like a jelly on a drit bike. The MTD is supposed to be firmer than the Selecta. Who knows if it feels stiff to you then it feels stiff.

No Worries and thanks for the reply.  Just looking for a softer board at the mo, was wondering if it was just me though.  i’m pretty light n not exactly tall so probably just need to work on the leg muscles :P

That Neversummer EVO looks tasty though….

Rich Ewbank on June 29, 2011 at 04:12 PM

The Evo definitely isn’t soft. If you want a soft jibby board you might want to check out the Arbor Draft and K2 WWW. The Signal Park boards are ridiculously soft too, their Park Rocker is the softest board I’ve ever ridden. Just out of interest, what are your stats and what board size are you riding?

Mark on June 29, 2011 at 07:11 PM

Currently Riding a 153.

I’m: 9st/126lb/57KG (:P) 5,9” and a US shoe size 9.

I’m pretty light as far as I can tell compared to my buddies who go boarding =/.

Rich Ewbank on June 29, 2011 at 07:21 PM

THat would definitely explain it Mark. I’d ride the Selekta 153 as a jib/park board and I’m over 15kg heavier than you. If I were you I’d have a look at the boards I suggested above around the 150 length. I’m guessing you are riding jibs and rails? Are you riding indoors, small hills or on mountains?

Ctec87 on June 29, 2011 at 07:46 PM

Ahhhh.  Darn, I guess when it got recommended to me the guys at the store didnt take in my weight to consideration.

I mostly ride indoors given that I live in the UK but i’d love to take it to the mountains in Switzerland with me next year.

I do a bit of jibbing/rails-boxes but I wasnt something that can take me up a level a bit, help me improve my riding in this area. the Apo just feels a little to clumsy when it comes to the park for me but thats probs cos its too big n too stiff for me! ARGH!

Oh well, good thing I got a new job :P
