Volkl Selecta - 2010

/images/brands/volkl/logo/volkl_logo.gif

Powder Heaven!!! A medium-firm flex, tapered shape, swallow tail with powder channel (for all the float of a swallow tail with the flexibility of a standard tail), aramid damping to eliminate chatter and a rocker profile just incase you needed any more float. Tweak the tail with a softer flex to help with rear foot steering in deeper snow and increase the sidecut radius for highpeed railing and you have the ultimate powder board… you had better start saving for that trip to Japan!

Manufacturer's Description:

The ultimate surfboard for powder! The brand new Rocker Shape combined with a pin-tail sidecut provides maximum flotation in the pow. A unique Powder Channel imitates the fin of a surfboard. For ventures near the rocks a 360° Titanium Protector protects the topsheet and wooden sidewalls from damage. Zero powder? A softer pin-tail flex and specifically sintered graphite base make the Selecta carve easily on the groomers. The Selecta is an unobstrusive version of a conventional swallow tail snowboard and rides like the ultimate freeride weapon, regular and switch!

right. had the original of these the red devil in 2009, that was a hell of a board in deeep crisp powder, but i felt it was a bit “boaty” very heavy and cumbersome in deep blower pow. the weight of the original was “significant”. loved it but for all but the 2nd best days this board struggeld. it was very hard on yr legs on piste…...... fast forward to last yr and my purchase of 2 of these in 168 and 173… MUCH lighter , thinner and MUCH more manouvable. boughtthe 168 for mucking around in ankle deeps and hte 173 for tihgh deeps, wel las it turns out i can ride thw 168 in almost everything, abd the 173 handles everything ive thrown at it so far. ( im in japan, we have pow up the wazooooo! )  i have a quiver of the best pow sticks there are and this seris is awsome. the new flex and weight profile makes this board one of if not the best stick to ride . certianly the best one i have .  and certianly the most fun.  just an out and out great board not just a pow stick it handles the piste with aplomb. love it cant htink of any reason to even consider a change. and when it gets deep well this is where thie absolutely excels. jee if they have to improve this i cant wait. but how? much much better board than the old. 10/10
