Rome Mod - 2011

/images/brands/rome/logo/rome_logo.gif

The Rome Mod is the apple of the Rome designer’s freestyle eye. New for the 2011 season Rome have boosted the Mod’s pop-ability with Carbon Hot Rod reinforcement, they’ve toughened-up the construction with Kevlar impact plates (the material used in Bullet Proof Vests) and toned down the flex a little by replacing Carbon reinforced biaxial glass with Superlight biaxial glass. All of these features make the Mod a great option for experienced snowboarders who like to freestyle in the park, in the pipe and in the backcountry. If you’re riding experience has been constricted to sub-10 weeks on snow there are probably more suitable boards in the Rome range.

Manufacturer's Description:

The frontman of the Stay Positive Camber band, the new Mod is laid up with a bonanza of bodacious, bomb-the-hill technology for 2011. Carbon HotRods blast rider energy precisely into those spots where you load up ollies and nollies. Kevlar keeps it ballistic under your new V-Rod baseplates. Even lighter than before, the result is Eiki’s favorite deck for hitting extra-large man-made and natural jumps. A super-tech park twin-tip for the rest of us humans.

Snowboard Review:

The Rome Mod is the top of the range all mountain freestyle board that packs so much tech it belongs in formula 1…well almost! This puppy has carbon power bars in the nose and tail which stiffens the board when you start riding fast, keeping you nice & stable which obviously helps! I couldn’t find anything bad to say about the Mod, its sidecut works well with the explosive flex and positive camber making the ride super lively, great for confident all-mountain freestyle snowboarders.

If you like charging around, hitting big kickers, big drops and pipe then the Rome Mod is dialed for you. I my experience, the Mod felt particularly nice on kickers and in the pipe, and even on the occasions when I got my feet down but the landings were rutted, the super solid on edge feel meant I was stomping landings I probably wouldn’t have on most of the freestyle boards I rode during the test week. I wouldn’t recommend the Mod to beginners or intermediates that are starting to catch some air but for advanced intermediates and strong all-mountain rippers this board is ideal.

Rome Agent or Rome MOD???? How do they compare for rails/jibs,jumps and carving. Is the mod ok on rails?

Rich Ewbank on September 25, 2010 at 10:37 PM

Both are medium firm flexing park boards designed for pop and stability when hitting big jumps and grip up pipe walls. Because of they’re designed to be responsive and hold a firm edge neither are ideal for rails, but when I rode the Agent it was ok, I’m not sure I’d want to boardslide it through any down to flat kinks, but I don’t ride many of those.

The rome agent is by far one of the best boards out there now. I will ride anything from f/s sliding kinks to the deepest pow (50”) in telluride. You will feel confident riding anything because the board is made to handle anything. The mod is basically a little more tech, and true twin (compared to the agents directional twin), and focused more on just the park. I would recommend the agent any day because it is just so much fun. however if you are jumping all day and are more focused on getting super tech in that area hit up the mod bc it will help you shred like no other.

THere you have it. The Agent is pretty dialled for riding everything.

Cool, cheers for that man.I already ordered the MOD cos I mostly ride park, but after reading that, I’d like an agent aswell!!

You’ll be stoked on the Mod.. a serious bit of kit! make sure you leave a review here when you’ve smoked a few pipes and done a hatchet job on your local park! Enjoy.

Wow is this board incredible.  Makes me creative all over the mountain trying to find anything to rip with this thing.  The pop is absolutely insane, just as advertised.  Holds very stable during high speed grooming and launches off kickers.  Plows through the chop very well, and bailed me out of some nasty rutted-out landings. I got this for an all-mountain board that also could bring the technical fun-loving specs of a park board into the trees.  Definitely found it here.  I will not be touching my Burton or NS for the rest of the season, no matter what the conditions.
