Nitro Eero Ettala Pro - 2011

/images/brands/nitro/logo/nitro_logo.gif

It’s a pretty well know fact that Eero Ettala kills it on all terrain. From Throwing down precise, laser guided double backflips in Japan’s legendary trees to stomping unimaginable tricks back-to-back in the X-Games finals, Finish snowboarding hero Eero Ettala can ride it all. No surprise then that Eero’s pro model at Nitro slices through any terrain like a hot knife through butter. Just make sure you work on your girlie legs over the summer, because the Eero isn’t the softest of snowboards.

Manufacturer's Description:

Eero is a tech wizard who does his shit big and drops hammers. From rails to jumps to backcountry lines, he’s doing it his own way and making it look good. His pro model has evolved over the years just as his riding has. Eero loves consistency so the running length on all of his pro models is the same. He’s just extending the length of the nose and tail to fit whatever he is riding. Eero rides all season, which means durability is a huge factor: so we have added Ballistic Impact Panels and the Powerlite core to his model. The Tri-progressive sidecut makes for a very lively turning board and the Profile Tip for added maneuverability.

Snowboard Review:

This was the third and final board of the Nitro range which I tried at the boardtest and after the experience I had had on the Team Gullwing and the Rook, both excellent boards, I was expecting big things. The board has had a lot of input, as you should expect, from the 2010 X-games champion himself, including his own graphics which were much more attractive than Nitro’s usual understated or skeleton/skull inspired offerings. Eero in my eyes is one of the best riders around at the moment (just look up his winning run at the X-games on youtube) so I bow to his knowledge and will say that for anyone who wants to ride like Eero, then this must be the board to do it on. I was pleased to see he has stuck with a low traditional camber, which was nice to feel again, super grippy on turns and super stable at speed. I guess you don’t do switch double back flips over 25m+ booters on a noodle, because this board felt very stiff to me, but then I am guessing that despite a long season riding the best the Alps have to offer, my leg muscles are still like pieces of string compared to the guns uber-pro Eero is packing. I weigh about 68kg, and although I loved this board and would happily use it for taking over the larger park kickers and into the pipe, my choice from the Nitro range would be either the Rook or the Team Gullwing, both of which are a good 15-20% softer. Yes I know that the Ettala is a much prettier looking board and that graphics shouldn’t matter, but Nitro should really consider letting Eero design the paintjobs for their whole range. Graphics aside, the Eero is all in all an awesome snowboard that would suit heavier riders, serious kicker and pipe riders, or X-games slopestyle champions who can do double corks and switch double backs.
