Well if you thought that Jones Snowboards was going to be a freeride one trick pony then you are sadly mistaken, the Jones arsenal includes an all mountain twin shaped snowboard appropriately named the Mountain Twin. Forest Shearer, Jonaven Moore and a load of up and comers have been putting time in on the Mountain Twin making sure it lives up to its name. For the 2011/12 season the Mountain Twin is available as a splitboard.

Manufacturer's Description:

Who says you can’t have it all? The Mountain Twin rips terrain like a freestyle board with a freeride heart. From soft stashes to corduroy jump lines, the twin profile, directional flex Mountain Twin knows no boundaries. When you feel like rallying the mountain like it’s your own personal skate park, strap into the Mountain Twin. CAMROCK frees up the tip and tail offering extra float in soft snow while camber under foot combined with Mellow Magne-Traction give the Mountain Twin the snap and hold of a traditional board. We know progression doesn’t stop at the resort so the Mountain Twin is also offered in a split-board for those that look to push their pillow popping skills into the backcountry.

Anyone know if the mountain twin 160 is wide enough for size 13 and long enough for 6 ft.  180 lb. Thanks

According to the Jones website it’s fine for your weight but perhaps it’s a touch too narrow for size 13 feet.

I just took this board out for a week of riding in Solden during the christmas holidays. I must say, it didn’t disappoint. I rode the 159 and I’m 1.85m(about 6 feet), 85kg(~188 Ibs). My boot size is EU 44.5(US 11).

Last year I rode the custom V but it broke so I got the money back from the insurance which allowed me to buy a new one this year. I found that the Custom flying V of last year was great in powder and reall forgiving in the park but it lacked the grip and stability on the pistes to really go fast. It didn’t give me the confidince I wanted because it washed out a lot when the piste got a little bit harder. I eventually found the Jones Mountain Twin at my dealer and it looked great, the camrock profile in combination with mellow magnetraction must give me more grip on harder pistes and ice I figured. And it did. It holds an edge really really well which makes it excellent for carving, although it likes the shorter carves much better than long turns. On ice and harder pistes it was much better than the custom flying V, even as good as some longer regular camber boards Ive ridden(beginner boards). It was important for me that I could go down any pistes at any speed without having to worry about hitting ice and going down which made life on the pistes much less stressfull. And it did just that.

On top of that it does great off the piste as well. It isn’t an as effortless float as the flying V but it did really well. I didn’t have to lean back too much and it behaved exactly as I wanted it to.

I couldn’t really take it to the park since there was virtually no park in Solden when I was there, but on the jumps and ramps I did take it was really good. It was forgiving on the landings, no matter if you land on the back of the board or in the middle. The rockered tips meant the board doesn’t catch the snow during landings. It is a bit stiffer than the Flying V though, which was quite flexible between the bindings.

Overall this is a great board for someone who whants a board that does it all. Carving/bombing down the mountain with skiing friends while at the same time being able to hit the powder and ramps. That was the kind of board I was looking for and I’m really happy with this board. Plus, it looks great.

PS. Ive seen some complaints about the top sheet peeling of really quick. It didn’t for me. There’s no sign of peeling whatsoever, not even at the tail and nose where the skiers leave their mark on your board while waiting at the lifts(those who’ve been there must know what I mean).

I read a few reviews before buying a 159 Mountain Twin and still wasn’t sure whether I’d made the right decision. I’ve fitted Union Contact Pro’s and together this makes for the perfect board for me as I’m 1.80m tall and 90kg with size 9 (EU43) feet in Burton Ambush boots. I think it was Rich Ewbank that commented that the board can be a bit skittery on hard pack and this is exactly what I found too. In my case, easily fixed by widening my stance which felt strange at first but enabled me ride the board rather than letting it ride me. Maybe it was just a matter of fixing this one element but I prefer to think that the board itself has made me a much better, more confident rider. My topsheet is fairly scuffed but this should probably be expected as it is a thin film rather than using more traditional materials and, besides, it’s usually covered in snow anyway and I’m more interested in performance than asthetics. Trust your instincts and buy this board, you will not be disappointed.
