K2 Fastplant

SB-RV Review

The K2 Fastplant is a fun ride; relaxed, flexible and light it made riding the park a blast.

As a jib rocker board the profile is 80% flat which keeps the board more stable than a lot of other reverse camber profiles and the rocker in the tips helps to create a loose buttery feel and keeps the contact points of the board clear of the snow until you decide to load them with an ollie, a press or just initiating a turn; this practically removes edge catching. The Fastplant also has very noticeable and explosive pop, this is a term that gets banded around a lot and I’m guilty of using it a bit too much too, but the Fastplant really does pop huge! The reason behind it is the Ollie Bar K2 has placed between the bindings along the core of the board, combined with the horizontally laminated bamboo of the core it creates something really special and a board that is very flexible. K2’s Ollie Bar is a carbon braided strip preformed and cured with a camber shape the construction also includes Kevlar and Urethane, but I’m sure TNT is an active ingredient that K2 has forgotten to mention in their brochure.

I was impressed with the Fastplant’s base it was fast in the slushiest and the stickiest spring snow; I never once had speed issues. Hybritaper tapers off the board profile thickness towards the tail and tip reducing swing weight and K2’s new Carbon Web must be working because the Fastplant felt ultra-responsive, when you add that to the other elements of this board you end up with one insanely good jib board.

K2 say this board is aimed at high-end freestylers but in all honesty it’s not difficult to ride at all. From beginner to pro, literally anybody can ride the Fastplant.

Highlights:
Jib Rocker is stable, playful and catch-free
Explosive POP!
Flexible and lightweight
Fast sintered base
Easy to ride

Let-downs:
I couldn’t find any

What about this board in powder days and backcountry slopes? It’s too flexible to handle that? I’ve bought this board and I can’t wait to put it to rip the mountains!!
