Burton Custom X - 2012

/images/brands/burton/logo/burton_logo.gif

After riding the Custom X last year I would have said that improving on it would have been next to impossible. It kicked out of turns like a Jackass on steroids and the grip on the slickest of hardback was mind blowing. For the 2011/12 season little change has been made to the Custom X, however the change that has been made is significant. Last year the Custom X had a positive core profile which meant that a constant core thickness was maintain between the bindings giving the board immense torsional stiffness, essential for vice-like edge hold. With the move to a Squeezebox profile the ride will have changed, but by how much… well you’ll have to read the review!

Manufacturer's Description:

Double-overhead McTwists, threading needles, and sending it at jacket flapping speedóif this is your style, then the Custom X™ is your board. Pro-stock performance for riders like Frederik Kalbermatten and Kazu Kokubo, it combines razor-sharp response and cat-like edge control with helium-huffing weight. Now supercharged with Squeezebox for strategically targeted snap and stability that gives you more while working less.

Snowboard Review:

If you ever wondered how little Japanese rider Kazu Kakubo goes so big in the Superpipe here’s your answer. The Burton Custom X is a serious pipe riders board; fast, responsive, stable and powerful. If you’re looking for a versatile high-end board that you can use all over the mountain from jibs to the backcountry then the regular Burton Custom might be a more suitable choice. But if you’re an aggressive rider that enjoys the pipe, steeper more challenging terrain and mammoth kickers this could be an inspired choice, providing you’ve got the dollar.

Perhaps the most enjoyable qualities of this board are its effortless edge-hold and stability, you really feel like you’re locked onto a railtrack; which means that powering through the flat-bottom of the pipe and carving into the biggest kickers in the park is a lot less petrifying. Nevertheless the Custom X isn’t entirely focused on pipe because it’ll give you the strength and stability to slay some steep and variable snow in the backcountry and get your chin nice and close to the snow when carving or racing down your local boardercross track. Another notable characteristic of this board is the way that it picks-up even the slightest foot movement and lateral movements across the board, without the slightest effort, this means that although the board has a stiff longitudinal and torsional profile and feels stable and powerful it also feels very responsive and completely effortless to carve and cruise powder on…….be warned foot ache will reach new levels on this board.

The Custom X is a great board, so if you’re an experienced and aggressive rider looking for something to charge the mountain with and take your pipe riding to the next level then sell your car, or your girlfriend, and head down to your local Burton dealership and take this beast for a spin.

Hey.

I’m getting an excellent deal on the 2012 CX, and that is the board I’m lookin for. Sadly though, it’s a 159W. I’ve been dreaming of a 162W or 164W. My measures are 184cm and 200lbs and boot size 11. Anyone got any opinions if it’s short or not? Thanks for the tips, guys.
