Just curious, what is the difference between the Paradigma UNW8 and the regular Paradigma Boards?
And Rich, which of those 2 was the one that you recommended in your first post?
I’m pretty much in the same situation and looking for a new board to get more aggressive with.

Hi thorxes,
I recommended the standard Paradigama. From what Tobi has told me and from my experiences the Paradigama is as much a board as most aggressive riders are going to need. I rode the Falcanoid and the HiDef which are rated inline with or slightly behind the Pradigama with regards to flex… trust me these boards are only going to be of interest for those who like to carve hard and pump aggressively. The UNW8 is basically the standard model shape wise with a stiffened flex patterm, thanks to a helping of Carbon, a lighter core and a faster ultra premium sintered base. I’m definitely going to give it a whirl at next years board test in May… but from what I’ve heard you’ve got to be on your game to get a good ride out of it.

Ok thanks for the feedback.
I went to amplid’s site and found that they only had one of the regular boards left and it was a size 159. I’m 6’ tall, so I’m not sure if that’s too short for me or not.
Also, I was hoping you meant the UNW8 since I like the graphic on that better. I’m really not digging the white/blue/green combo on the regular one.
Lastly I think I was getting confused as to which would suit more of a freeride type of style. But I think you’re right now that I’ve double checked. The regular fits freeride much better.

It’s not so much the terrain type, more the kind of rider you are, regarding these two boards. A board with a super stiff torsional flex like the UNW8 only works well for riders who charge everywhere, no good at all for just cruising about, hitting jumps off the side of the piste, doing the odd butter. This board is really for flying by the seat of your pants. It’s only more Freeride focused because it’s less freestyle focused if that makes any sense.Point and shoot, long carves and lots of straight lining.
Personally I think the Paradigama makes most sense unless you’ve ridden boards like the Palmer Crown, Volkl Coal and Arbor A-Frame and want something in a similar vein but with even lighter construction… then it’s the UNW8.
If you want a a more freeride orientated board then you should look at the Amplid Equity which has an eliptical nose (so it doesn’t go diving under the snow) and a 10mm taper for even more nose float and easier initiation into powder carves. However it does start at 166cm so it’s a freeride specialist deck.
If you’re looking for an all mountain board then 159 will be ok although 163 would be better. Obviously if it’s freeriding and pow you want to ride then I wouldn’t look at the 159… too short, assuming you weigh no less than 80kg.

Hey Rich,
I’ve still been doing some digging around for a new board. I came across the AK Intelligence. What’s your opinion on it?

A very nice board. Good tapered shape for extra float, a high grade base, intellifibres (Head’s reactive construction) and some pretty eye pleasing graphics. Don’t really have a bad thing to say about it. My only critisism is that when you’re riding slowly Head decks can sometimes feel a little dull.. but crank up the speed an they’re little fire crackers. Might be worth holding out ‘til next season if you;re interested in the AK. Grpahics get even nicer and they’ve added a strange rocker profile… I will be testing this bad boy in May for sure!
There are some details about 2010/11 head AK in this article about next years freeride boards:

Sweet, I went ahead and got the AK for $300 no tax off ebay from some store in colorado. the 2009 one.
Now I just gotta work up to the big freeridingmountains. I was thinking of hitting up Mt.Hood this summer since I don’t know of any other places to hit up during the summer. Any suggestions?
