I’m looking to start entering boardercross competitions, and seeing as I need all new gear anyways I figured that I’d post the topic and see what kind of reponse i got. Will the boots or bindings i use really make much of a difference? And what kind of board would another racer use/recommend? I’m looking at a Donek Saber Right now.  I’ve never even heard of that company though.  I’ve been more of a Ride guy previously but maybe it’d be better to get a board made with specs for competition/boardercross. And what exactly is a board sauna, and one more thing are there any types of wax that you would recommend. I know it’s a long question but I want to win, so the best lap times will be necessary. I appreciate any helpful comments or suggestions.

Wohaa!

Boardercross is great… but it is one aspect of snowboarding I’m a bit clueless about:

* Yeah Donek is big in the Boardcross world. Other manufacturers with a good reputation are Apex who build custom boards for serious competitors and Kessler.

* I’m guessing high Flouride wax is what you are after. Anything by the likes of Swixx and Toko that are manufacturered by ski racing brands. The trick is matching the wax and the structure to the snow conditions. e.g. in very cold weather us a cold temp wax and a very fine structure.

* Boots and bindings. I’d buy stiff, supportive and lightweight. You’ll want lots of forward lean for response and so you don’t have to get out of an aerodynamic crouch to lean through a heelside carve.

Board Sauna sounds a bit fruity! Maybe it’s to help a base absorb wax?

Hey thanks for the info. While I was looking at boards I found something else.  It’s a board said to be specifically designed for boardercross. It’s called a Prior BX, have you heard or read anything about it?  Thanks for the advice.

Don’t know much about that specific board, but Prior are a good manufacturer creating boards next to Whistler in BC in their own factory. Priors can be a little on the heavy side, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about their customer service.
