Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster…

ABOUT ME: I recently moved to central NY and now looking for the appropriate board to purchase. I’ll be limited to park / freestyle riding, but due to a prior injury I have an aversion to rails. If the opportunity presents itself I’ll definitely go beyond the confines of the park but doubt this will be a frequent occurrence in CNY. I’m 5’10’’ and 175lbs.

POSSIBLE BOARDS: After some brief research I’ve created the following list and would greatly appreciate everyone’s input:

—Rome Reverb Rocker 154cm
—Ride Agenda 152cm
—Ride Crush 152cm
—Ride Kink 152cm
—K2 Parkstar 152cm (2010/2011 model)
—K2 WWW 152cm (2010/2011 model)

Thanks all!

Hey there,

sorry I don’t want to seem like a lazy sloth but would you mind narrowing your selection of boards down a little bit?
I understand you did some research already so I do not need to recommend any new board that’s not yet on your list but that also means, I have to look into the boards you want to know a bit more about, and write about every single one of them. Shortening the list will makes our job a bit easier and in the end provides you with more detailed information!

Thanks, Cheers Tobi

Hi Tobi,

I’d be delighted to do so, in fact, I’ve already started narrowing the list (primarily based on availability and price). As it stands now:

—Ride Crush 152cm (2012 model)
—K2 Parkstar 152cm (2011 model)
—K2 WWW 152cm (2011 model)

I remain interested in the Rome Reverb but it may be a little too pricey for me as a grad student. That said, I’ve found many riders out there are partial to the Reverb, thus, I could be persuaded to make the investment. On the other hand, I’m assuming that the quality of construction isn’t significantly better than the 3 listed above. But I digress…

BTW, in terms of length I used to ride 153-155 when I lived in CO. But now that I’m in NY and will be mostly limited to the park I think a slightly shorter deck would be sensible.

Anyway, thanks for the response and I hope this list is a little more manageable?

Cheers,

Jeff

I’d go with the Parkstar out of the boards you’ve listed. The 152www and Crush are going to be absolute noodles for someone of 175lbs. Actually I’d probably go for a Fastplant if you’ve got the extra budget.

I’ve never tried any of those boards, but I have tried the K2 Fastplant, and I’ve seen the 2011 model on sale for ~$350.  If you can find one, that would be my recommendation.  It’s stiff enough to support your weight and ride most of the mountain well, but soft and poppy enough to be a blast in the park.

Again, one of the other boards may very well be better, I just know from personal experience you’d be happy with the fastplant.

Thanks everyone!

Since I was able to get a great deal on a brand new Parkstar I decided to go in that direction. I think I’m going to complete the setup with Ride Revolt bindings.

Again, thank you for your time.
