So finally decided on which new board to get; the Rome Agent Rocker.
I just can’t figure out which size to pick. I probably already know, but I need some opinions to make up my mind.
My reason for switching boards, is that I’ve been riding a Flow Merc 158W for the past few seasons; got no issues riding it, but still wish it was less heavy and more playful, giving me some more control.
I’m about a 5’9” and 154 lbs. So the 153, 154W or 155 come into mind. Currently using a US11.5 boot, which is a bit oversized. Gonna have a look at some new ones today and hopefully squeeze it down to a 10.5 or 11.
153 is ideal for my height. 155 for my weight.
I’m primarily an all-mountain type of guy, rarely hitting the park, though still I want my board to be flexible and playful enough, when I finally do.
I’m kinda leaning towards the 155, though I’m not sure if I be able to feel that big of a difference from my current board.
Then again the 153 is more suited to my height, but I’m not sure if it’ll wreck the mountain as good as the 155. Also, I hate the red graphic on it :D
Lastly, would I be able to tell that much of a difference between the two, taking stance width into consideration as well?
As I said, I might be nitpicking, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Hey Landa,
when picking the right board size, weight is always more important than heigth. Actually, I’m only around 70kg as well and I’m riding a 159 cambered board.
I think the 155 is the right size for you, just as you do.
You won’t notice a huge difference between the 153 and 155 anyway but more length provides a little more stability, and as you have the right weight to flex it.. perfect!
Cheers Tobi

Do you have boot size reduction boots? Because I’m riding the Agent Rocker 157 with a 10.5 US shoe, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable on anything thinner. My boot hangs almost exactly 2 cm over the edge with 15 and -6 stance.
The 155 and 153 are another 3 mm thinner than the 157. And I don’t think the 159 would work well for you, nor do I think it’s particularly easy to get a 154W (I’ve never seen one).
You might be stuck with the 156W, which I think you’d still be happy with. But I highly recommend not getting the 153/155 with your foot size, and would still recommend against it even if you have a boot that’s effectively a 10.5. I think the 154W would be perfect for you, and if you can’t find that, the 156W would still work.
EDIT: Rereading your post, I’d recommend the 153 if you find a 10.5 fits you and can afford something like the Burton Ion (effective foot size would be 9.5W). I’d also recommend the decade collection since it’s way cooler looking (IMO) and the same price.

You can just use the boot size calculator on our main site to see if your boots fit on the board or not.
And I really wouldn’t go with anything shorter than 155.

First of, thanks for all the replies.
I was starting to lean towards the 153, but decided to take your advice and went with the 155. So it should be in the mail by now. I know we’re just talking 2cm, but when you have no chance of demoing, you want to make absolutely certain, before you invest. So thanks again.
Also, got the the decade edition (thanks Nuculer :)
I went to the store where I got a pair of Nitro Anthem TLS size US11. They’re tight… still trying to work out if they’re too tight. Getting a bit of pressure along the side of my feet which also get cold after wearing them for a while indoors, so I dunno. I’ll try walking indoors with them for the next week or so, and see if it changes. If not, back to the store.
I checked out your Boot Size calculator, but it just seemed to recommend me any US size on both the 153 and 155. Even if went with an angle of 0/0

Hey Landa,
Stoked you found the right board and the forums were useful to you.
What dimensions did you input into the boot size calculator?

Numbers are from Rome’s Official site.
For the 155:
SCR(m): 7.83
SW(in): 22
WW(cm): 251
FBA: 15
RBA: -12
For the 153:
SCR(m): 7.64
SW(in): 22
WW(cm): 250
FBA: 15
RBA: -12
It gives me Okay or Ideal numbers. Not sure what to make of those?

You need to put the waist width in as centimeters not millimeters. So 251mm = 25.1cm
It says the ideal boot size is a US9. Which is spot -on if you ask me. I ride a board with similar dimensions, the sidecut is a bit longer, but my stance is a couple of inches wider and I have a US9 boot. Some boot manufactureers are able to cut -down the boot length which might help i.e. Burton Shrinkage tech.
Remeber these are ideal boot sizes… if you don’t mind extra overhang then don’t worry about it.

Oh, of course. Silly me.
So… looks like I’m screwed then /:
No way, I’m getting into anything smaller than a US11, unless Shrinkage-tech is an option or I go with a wide board…

Yeah Burton Shrinkage tech would bring you down to a US10 boot length even though the fit will be a US11 if you get what i mean. Otherwise, the 154W would be perfect at 26cm at the waist.

Of course, I’d rather not go wide, so will see if I’m able to find some new boots. Man, if all manufacturers would just measure their boots in mondo, that would make life so much easier.
Did a bit of google’ing. Am I correct in assuming that the shrinkage tech is part of the whole Burton line-up?
Also, how much overhang would be acceptable?

Certainly seems to appear on most of their range.
26cm is more mid-wide than wide. Perfect for a US11 boot.

Like I said in my earlier post, the regular Rome board is too narrow for your foot. I have one. I have the 157, which is 2 mm wider than the 155. My foot size is a 10.5 M, and I’m using Rome boots which have no shrinkage.
Typically, anything over 2cm overhang is “too much.” Like Rich said, if you take something through the ropes and more than 2cm of overhang doesn’t bother you, then the limit on overhang is whatever you’re personally comfortable with. That said, with a 10.5 US-M boot on the Agent Rocker 157, I wouldn’t be comfortable with a millimeter more overhang. My overhang is almost exactly 2 cm. I like having on the closer side of 2 cm overhang, which is why i sized down to the 157. It lets me turn faster, which is something I like doing. But any more than what I have, and my toes would drag… I can tell.
It may be my boots are slightly big for a 10.5. It may be I turn more aggressively than you. But it’s my personal opinion that a 155 is just too narrow for an 11 US-M boot. If you get a burton boot with shrinkage (which I’ve never tried) and as advertised, that is the same exact thing as having a size 10 boot., then I’d say you made the right choice with the 155. If you don’t get a boot with shrinkage, and have to size back up to an 11.5 US-M, then I’d agree with Rich… the 154W is going to fit you best by far. Like I said earlier, I’ve never actually seen one though, so hopefully you can find one if that ends up being what you need. I hope that it all works out and you can find the Agent Rocker that fits you well, because it’s an amazing board. I’m having a ball on it.
Good Luck!

Right, so… this is kinda embarrassing.
Walked into the store yesterday, my mind all set on getting some Burton-boots to get the profile down.
I’ll spare you all the details, but it seems, I’ve been pretty darn ignorant on the whole boot-size subject, and apparently do not know my own boot size any longer.
Long story short, I got schooled by the most cocky salesman with an attitude I’ve ever met, and ended up walking out of the store with a size US 10 (which is actually my size as it turns out. 9.5-10 that is.)
This other guy actually came up, telling me how envy he was of my “perfect sized feet for snowboarding”.
To top things of, the salesman and I are both going to Tignes the same week, so I may actually bump into him down there. Gawd.
Sooo. Seems all my troubles are gone. Got my boots. Board is on its way and getting some Cartels on friday. So all set.
Again, thanks for taking your time to comment and giving advice. It really means a lot. Will definately be visiting the site more often in the future. Cheers all!
