Hello all,

I’m in need of some direction in narrowing down what has become a lengthy list of boards I’m considering buying.  I’d appreciate any help and insight.  I’m 6’ 2” (187 cm) about 180 lbs (81 kg).

I ride park and blacks.  I’m from the East coast of the US, so not a ton of powder but I do take some trips out to Utah and Colorado and I ride powder there.  In terms of park I ride mainly jumps and not very many rails, but would like to be able to do some.  I like to charge it pretty hard.  I currently ride an Atomic Exeter with Burton Cartel bindings.

I am considering the following boards.

Nitro Rook
Ride Machete
K2 Slayblade
Lib Tech Dark Series (maybe a bit more than I want to spend but I’d probably be willing to buy it)
Never Summer EVO-R
Lib Tech TRS

I’d be open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks again.

You and I have very similar body types as I am 6"1” and 170 lbs., except I wear size 11.5 boots. You and I also seem to enjoy a similar style of snowboarding because we both ride blacks and are really only in the park for jumps.

I generally ride 162cm to 165cm boards, and I even ride a 169cm board on occasion when I am out West. Since you are 6’3”, I am assuming that you don’t want a board under 160cm in length.

This is a list of boards that was recommended to me when I stated I want to carve and hit jumps in the park:
Never Summer SL-R
Lib Tech T Rice C2 BTX
Lib Tech Dark Series C2 BTX

After doing some research, I found that these are more park oriented boards, and if I remember correctly, none of them are available in a size longer than 159cm. Then, while reading reviews on this website, I came across the YES snowboard. I have yet to ride it, but the review says it is stellar. Check it out:

I do ride rails though and spend a vast majority of my time on the mountain in the park so I’m leaning away from the SLR and I’ve revised my list quite a bit.  I’m thinking EVO-R or Revolver-R (don’t know if I really need the Revolver or not with size 10.5’s I have cartel bindings), Nitro Rook, or the K2 Slayblade.  Also i don’t want anything longer than a 159.  I want it to be more playful than my current 160.  The dark series is a little stiffer than I want.  I rode a Jamie Lynn the other day and it felt nice but I’m not sold on the banana I’d rather have c2 so if I were to go the Mervin route I’d have to wait for next season.  They’re putting c2 on a lot more of their boards.  So, Evo-r, revolver-r, rook, or slayblade?

You won’t need the extra width of the Revolver so it’s definitely the EVO-R. The 158 will be a perfect ride for you, enough length for your height and weight and the right flex for park and pipe.

The Rook is a popular choice this season. Tom’s raving about zero camber because it really locks onto rails and is pretty versatile in all snow conditions. The Rook is a good option, I’d propably look at the K2 Believer instead of the Slayblade, it’s more park focused.
