Snowboard lessons in La Plagne?

I’m just about to book a trip to La Plagne, but a few of the guys in my group are beginners / intermediates and need lessons. There don’t seem to be any snowboard-specific schools in La Plagne, and the reputation of the French ski schools there (ESF, Oxygene, or Reflex) for teaching boarding looks pretty crappy.

Does anybody know of any other snowboard schools in the area, or advise on which out of these French ski schools might be ok?

Hi guys,

I recently tripped over Silbaerg (http://www.silbaerg.com). Did anyone made any experiences with their boards? I find their concept quite interesting.

Snowboard Size - How much do we really weigh and how tall are we?

Hello Snowboard-Review,

I am legitimately 145 lbs and little over 5 ft 9 in tall. So calculating my all mountain board size puts me on a board around 154 cm. My first season not knowing any better I chose a very stiff 154 and took the beating of a lifetime. Last year I chose a 154 that was medium flexing and took way less of a beating but still caught some edges and had some horrific tumbles. By the way, I am only an intermediate. I manage to charge blues, goof around off piste, and do a few jumps. So I started thinking,“Do I really suck this bad or could I possibly be on the wrong size board?” Well the other night I put on all my gear: base layers, hoodie, snow pants and jacket, boots, wrist guards, gloves, neck gaiter, helmet, goggles and a couple of condoms in my pocket, you know “just in case.” Then I stepped onto my sclales (these are doctors sclales that are accurate). The first thing I found out is that it is quite warm in my house with all those clothes on. The second thing I learned is that my gear weighs 14.5 lbs (instead of 145 lbs I suddenly weighed 159.5). If you figure that bindings weigh .5 lbs, we can say that a normal amount of gear weighs an even 15 lbs. I’m not done. My boots boost me up about .5 inches + another .25 inches that my bindings will lift me up. So…instead of 5’9ish 145 lbs, I am suddenly 5’10 160 lbs. That puts me at about 157 cm board. Now one might argue that 3 cm isn’t that much of a difference but when you are talking about where your effective edge ends and begins, it could actually make a difference. My question: Do the people that make snowboards account for the extra weight and height that gear adds? I look forward to a response.

To wax or not to wax?

Hi gentlemen!

I have a snowboard maintenance question: how often do I need to wax my board?

I searched the web, found various tips about how/when to wax your board, however doing all the “melt your wax/let it dry/remove excess/structure” seems really tedious, especially when you’re stuck with 5 friends in a 30m² apartment.

My questions then would be:

- Is there an easier solution? (e.g. cold wax that could quickly be applied to the board, like the skateboard wax for instance)
- Can I ride a whole week without rewaxing my board?
- Does the board sell already waxed or do I need to wax it before leaving? (Lib tech board)

Thxx!

Just got a new board, but q is do i need to return it in for a longer board before i use it?

Hi

Some info first than my worries :) Im 176lbs and just about 5.9 feet. Riding mostly offpiste/freeride. but i also spend some time in the slopes on the lazy days.

And my question is:

I just bought a new lib tech trs C2 159 board. And as my last burton was a 159 so i thought this size would do good on my new board. But when home putting the bindings on it just seemed a litte short.

Its not as wide as the old board either so with my size 11 shoes im afraid my heel or toe will stick to much outside the board. (is there any “rule” on this?)

Any opinions on this? do you think this will keep me on top on the deep pow?

Thanks in advance. and happy boarding
