Venture Snowboards announce support for POW

Colorado grass roots snowboard manufacturer Venture have just announced a partnership with Jeremy Jones’s non-profit environmental organisation Protect Our Winters (POW). For the 2009/2010 winter season, Venture will emblazon all its Euphoria powder boards - both solid and split - with the POW logo, and donate a portion of sales from these boards to POW.

In addition, Venture and POW are sponsoring a snowboard graphic contest to increase awareness of environmental issues.  Through January 1, 2010, Venture is accepting submissions of artwork that focus on winter, the environment, and activism.  The winning design will be incorporated into a run of special edition POW boards for winter 2010/2011.

Since its beginnings in 1999 Venture has had two main philosophies: to produce handcrafted superior performance snowboards while minimizing environmental impact. In keeping with this conservation ethic, the company has used only Forest Stewardship Council certified wood for its cores from day one, and converted its entire operation to wind power in 2004.  Venture also maintains a membership in the group ‘1% For The Planet’, donating 1% of its sales to environmental causes each year.  It seems that Venture’s alliance with POW was a natural progression for both parties and definitely backs up their green credentials.

Klemmens Branner, co-founder of Venture said ” we’re moving in the right direction and are always looking for new ways to chip away at the environmental issue, whether that’s through efficiencies in the production process, or collaborating with organizations like POW that are leading the charge with education and awareness.”

Chris Steinkamp, POW’s Executive Director, said:  “Venture represents a new breed of snowboard manufacturers who realize that design, production and environmental sustainability can co-exist.”
