Head AK and PX9 bindings an intelligent package for first descents

If you’re into balls-out freeriding but you haven’t heard of Head’s Intelligence technology then you must have been hidden away in the depths of the Himalayas soul surfing, because Head’s Intelligence is big news. Snowboard Review found a little beauty for you powder heads at the Head stand @ Slide.

Head's new AK ride

Intelligence fibres run from the inserts of the front binding to the ends of the effective edges in a V-shape, the kind of reinforcement you see being done with Carbon Fibres in freeride boards. The faster you travel the more vibrations travel through the fibres. These fibres turn vibration energy into piezo electric current. Current generated is fed into the I.CT chip where it is amplified and returned to the fibres stiffening them. All this happens in 1/5000th of a second. At slower speeds the board will initiate turns with little effort, and when charging down a powder chute at ridiculous speeds, the board will stiffen up.

The AK utilises Head’s Intelligence technology along with a multi-radial sidecut, a long tapered directional shape and a 7700 grade sintered base. It’s also one of the best looking boards out there…a kind of Arbor meets the Gonz! We reckon you should pair it up with a set of Head’s PX9 bindings - with the leather straps and cork foot-bed this setup looks absolutely stunning! And with Eric Themel rocking this setup, it’s got to be banging! Now all you’ve got to do is start saving some pennies for that heli-time.
